Consultation: Men and Masculinities

Preventing Violence Together manager Alicia Gibbs and sector development officer Ryan Corbould jetted off to Melbourne to attend Our Watch’s National Consultation on working with men and boys and addressing masculinities in the prevention of violence against women.

The pair, pictured below, joined about 70 other workers from the primary prevention, early intervention, response, and men’s mental health and wellbeing sectors from across Australia for a full day consultation. Topics covered included violence prevention programs working with men and boys, community-led initiatives, settings for men and masculinities programs, programs supporting at risk men and boys and programs for the health and wellbeing of men and boys.

Both Alicia and Ryan are excited to bring ideas shared throughout the consultation back to Western Australia.

“What a privilege to attend the Our Watch consult,” Ryan says.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other people in the primary prevention sector for some frank and productive discussions about men and masculinities and the important role it plays in our work ending men’s violence against women.

“It’s really energising and motivating to see how many people care about doing this important work and how much opportunity there is for collective action.”
