Project overview

The Defusing the Manosphere: Equipping trusted male role models to shape healthy masculinities project extends the ‘Youth Co-Design for FDV Prevention’ project which produced the ‘This is Manly’ campaign, previously funded under the Primary Prevention Grants Program 2022/2023 by further co-designing a creative intervention that will equip and empower trusted male role models to be positive and effective influences on attitudes about gender and violence, specifically supporting young men and boys in developing healthy and positive, supportive male peer relationships. The project is named ‘Defusing the Manosphere’, because previous co-design work with young people (and young men in particular) has shown the huge influence male role models hold is a crucial leverage point for change, and that defusing the power of toxic influences such as those in the ‘Manosphere’ is a necessary step towards primary prevention of gendered violence.
