Project overview

“Kuop Maaman Djinaning-Bo program, the Organisation and partner Dooga Waalitj Healing, will consider three key issues impacting the effectiveness and understanding of primary prevention program design and delivery within Aboriginal communities. These include that violence is not part of traditional Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Cultures; that violence against Aboriginal women is perpetrated by both indigenous and non-indigenous men and that alcohol is a contributing factor, and often a trigger for violence, but it is not the ‘cause’ in Aboriginal communities. Communicare and Dooga Waalitj Healing have established partnerships with key Aboriginal stakeholders across Perth and have commenced consultation with Aboriginal communities in co-designing this community-led, strength-based healing program.
Additionally, the program has been developed based on research and evidence collected across similar healing programs conducted in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. The co-design process will be an in-action process continually building on lessons learnt and adapting to the changing needs of Aboriginal participants.”
