Project overview

The Mid-West Early Years Gender Equality project sees a dedicated project officer liaising with early childcare providers in the mid-west region to ensure that learning and activities are offered in a way that does not reinforce gender stereotyping in the formative years of children and messages and models to the community as a whole against the gendered drivers of violence against women.

The project officer works to integrate culturally appropriate resources into facilities, work initially with children and their families and ensure a longer lasting impact by working and developing staff at the childcare facilities to continue with this work once the funding has ceased. In addition to the hands-on work that is being completed within the region, a number of resources will be developed and shared (Including some on-line training pieces).

This project sits under Desert Blue Connects Existing Community Respect and Equality (CRE) project whose sole objective is the primary prevention of violence against women. CRE is a trusted source of advocacy, education, and support with regards to Primary Prevention for Family Violence.

MEYGE had experiences success in implementing inclusive marketing, communication, and community education strategies to address the barriers that hinder the understanding of primary prevention of family violence, while simultaneously promoting respectful relationships.

By providing education, establishing linkages, and facilitating connections to primary prevention resources, as well as developing localized materials and packages, MEYGE has significantly bolstered its advocacy, capacity building, and education efforts.

Consequently, these combined endeavours have contributed to the overall effectiveness and impact of the MEYGE project in the Midwest Region.
